How to Design a Bedroom With a Bunk Bed – Bunk beds are space savers in a bedroom as long as the additional space created is well-utilized. It can be difficult to incorporate a set of bunk beds without having the bunk beds take over the whole room. Take some time to lay out your room before placing the bunk beds in it and think of ways to incorporate storage into your bunk bed design.

  1. Place the bunk beds against a wall so that the beds run parallel to the wall. This keeps the beds from taking up a lot of space in the middle of the room.
  2. Try and keep the floor open, especially in a child’s room, so that he can still play and the room appears less cluttered.
  3. Pick out bunk beds that have built-in storage features like drawers underneath the bottom bunk or bookcases built into the headboards.
  4. Hang a shelf above the top bunk to give the person who sleeps there extra storage space in place of a traditional nightstand.
  5. Make the space underneath a top bunk into a couch area or space for a small office or play area. If you only need one of the beds in the bunk bed, the bottom bunk area can become a place for a desk. Some bunk bed sets are convertible this way, or you can purchase a single lofted bed with space for other items underneath.
  6. Remember to make televisions and video game monitors easily viewable by those in both the top and bottom bunk. To save space and make this possible, it may be beneficial to hang the television from an opposing wall.
